BIOGRAPHY

Described as one of the most fascinating and sensitive artists to emerge from Scandinavia in recent years, Anna Agafia has been lauded for “causing a sensation from her very first masterful bow stroke” and praised for her “abundant array of colors and nuances”, her playing revealing “both seductive boldness and exciting dramaturgical intelligence”. Having won every single Danish music competition before the age of 20 while also pursuing acting, musical theater and figure skating on the side, Agafia ultimately devoted herself fully to music and went on to become a top laureate at several prestigious international violin competitions, including the Singapore International Violin Competition (2nd prize), the Carl Nielsen International Competition (3rd prize), the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition (1st prize), and the Stuttgart Guadagnini Stiftung Competition (3rd prize).

Agafia made her concerto debut at just 11 years old with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has regularly performed with leading orchestras across Europe and collaborated with various conductors such as Adam Fischer, Antoni Wit, Mihhail Gerts, Andre de Ridder, and Jean-Claude Casadesus. Just a few months ago, Anna was appointed soloist in residence with the Copenhagen Philharmonic for a three-year term.

Anna Agafia released her debut album on Claves Records in March 2023, featuring Szymanowski’s second violin concerto and Nielsen’s violin concerto with Sinfonia Varsovia and Aleksandar Markovic. The recording received widespread critical acclaim, earned a nomination for the ICMA Awards 2023, and was awarded Clef d’Or of the year by ResMusica.

A passionate chamber musician, Agafia has collaborated with some of today’s most prominent artists, including the Hagen Quartet, Renaud Capuçon, Emmanuel Pahud, Bertrand Chamayou, Lucas Debargue, Miguel da Silva, Andreas Brantelid, Enrico Pace, Trio con Brio, Gérard Caussé, Corina Belcea and Frank Braley. She has also participated in the “Chamber Music Connects the World” festival at Kronberg Academy, performing alongside artists such as Steven Isserlis, Gidon Kremer, and Christian Tetzlaff.

In 2021, Agafia signed with BeauSoir Productions, led by Renaud Capuçon, and in 2024 she joined Nordic Artists Management for representation across all Nordic countries.

Anna Agafia currently performs on a 1730–33 Guarneri del Gesù violin, “The Sphinx,” generously loaned by an anonymous donor.
